Rating the movies
Well, let's face it - this ain't exactly rocket science. But we do feel that a movie that purports to be erotic should at least have something erotic about it, or at least make some sort of a decent effort to arouse our senses...among other things.
Softcore movies, and all the sub-genres that fall under that umbrella (such as erotic thrillers, erotic sci-fi, bikini babes, sexploitation, specialty tease, etc) are usually not meant to be criticized as so-called "serious" film. But we do think the genre has some bona-fide talent on both sides of the camera.
We critique a softcore erotic movie based on our overall opinion of its sensual and psychological appeal. Elements such as nudity, fantasy, fetish and erotic themes all play a role, as do realistic and enthusiastic performances, creative camera work, effective direction, and decent production values.
If these elements can lend themselves well to an interesting story and character development then even better, but we hardly care about that stuff when Lorissa strips down to her g-string panties and starts rubbing herself. I mean, c'mon!
So here's how it breaks down:
We define nudity for males and females as such:
Brief: For females it means breasts and buns only. For guys it's either just buns or a quick flash of frontal—just when you think you see it POOF! it's gone.
Full - You can see everything from top to bottom, but not in an explicit way.
Explicit - For females, this means you can clearly see labia, not just the pubic hair. For guys it means the actor sports an erection.
Ah, yes. As in how real does the sex look? Do the performers look like they're into it? Do they show any genuine passion or chemistry? Or are they just going through the motions? We give a "Steamometer" rating of cold, mild, warm, hot or scorching based on an overall average.
We assign an overall star rating out of 5, with 1 star being absolutely dreadful and 5 stars being scorchingly hot.
= Poor. Nothing worthwhile, avoid this flick.
= OK. Nothing great, maybe some eye candy.
= Good/Average. Some good stuff to be found.
= Very Good! Many hot scenes.
    = Excellent! Hot stuff.
There are also half-stars ( ) awarded when required.
So you can see that its not rocket-science, but damn close. |
